My name is Tianna and it’s a pleasure to meet you! I wanted to do a quick re-introduction of myself since I have a few new people coming over to read.
This adds to the info in my Welcome page where I talk about my family, where I currently live and why I’m gluten-free. Here I will just add some fun facts and hopefully you will share your own in the comments. I would love to meet you, too!
I started to blog before blogs were a “thing”, back when home computers were a novelty. Being born in 1980 means I remember the computer revolution, dial-up internet, and when blogs were born. I loved the internet and started an “online journal” almost immediately.
As a teenager, I didn’t have much to say so it was mostly emo poetry and thoughts about the “cool” new indie music I was sure was going to be a thing. I hopped around from site to site, sure that this new blog would put my name out there. Not spending much time on it, it was something I did enjoy dabbling in. I was also journaling heavily.
When it came time to pick my major, the only thing I could bring to my guidance counselor was the fact that I like writing. Maybe I could write a novel under a pen name? She laughed at me! Then, she suggested journalism. Journalism didn’t stick but I still love to blog. I also love to read other people’s blogs, so please share in the comments if you have one so that I can come to visit.
Other random facts about me:
- I grew up in Saskatchewan as a townie. You know, where they call hoodies “bunnyhugs”, as it should be!
- I’ve always loved my name. Whenever we would play the “rename yourself game”, I could never think of a better one.
- In grade 4, I wanted to be an archaeologist after we learned about Pompeii. That passion faded when I found I just wanted to make up stories about dig finds, rather than all of the other work- so about 99% of what the job requires.
- I have an English degree so that I could go into journalism. When I didn’t get into my preferred school because I “lacked job focus”, I was put on the waiting list. So, I took a year off and found that I couldn’t find my focus in journalism because it wasn’t where I really wanted to be.
- My fave book growing up was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I wanted to be as spunky as Jo, but was closer to a Beth in reality.
- My fave book in uni was On The Road by Jack Kerouac. I loved his alcoholic rambling and his romanticizing of being nomadic. He was a VERY flawed man but a brilliant writer when he found focus. Big Sur also became one of my faves that year.
- My fave book now is constantly changing. Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami or Quiet by Susan Cain are both worth reading.
- I love music. Any new artists I should be tuning into? My very first concert was Rancid. I still listen to them sometimes. I also love Leonard Cohen, Tricky and Florence and the Machine, so I am kind of all over the place.
- My fave animals are cats, hedgehogs, narwhals, pandas (naturally!) and red pandas. I keep adding to this list as I discover cool facts about other animals.
- I’m working on being more eco-friendly.
- I’ve been gluten-free for a few years now, after a bout of food poisoning. More details on my Welcome page.
- I am constantly changing my hair colour. About every 5 years, I decide to grow my hair out, hate it and cut it back to my fave- the pixie cut. I think next I’ll go blonde and then, who knows?
- I used to hate pink, but love it now, as you can see.
- I’m an anxious traveler so I am a bitch to be around before a vacation, but I do like seeing new places occasionally. (And I do relax once I’m there). My top bucket list places to see are: Italy (especially Tuscany), Iceland, Greece, and Barbados. I also really want to go back to Cali and take the kids to Disneyland and the beach.
