Stress Skin & Renovations

Holy, my skin is bad.

Stressed out skin is no fun.

When I get busy, I don’t eat, sleep or shower as much as I should. As a result, I eat more carbs and sugar, function better on more caffeine and skip days of showering in the name of “getting more done”.

Today, I ate a lot of leafy greens for the first time in three days (and it’s been spotty, at best, for weeks): And, damn, it felt good.

Yes, there are still carbs, but I piled on the lettuce and had a side salad as well. 🙂

I can almost feel my body sigh in happiness when I eat better. It’s crazy to think how much food affects our overall well-being. Too much or too little of anything can affect your skin’s pallor, your mood and energy level, and even cause painful acne…or worse.

I have been deep into renovations, both downstairs and upstairs, as well as trying to declutter our home life and the stuff in storage! We have been renovating our 290 square foot basement. Since walls, a small bathroom and a bedroom have reduced the amount of storage space, we’ve tried to maximize storage upstairs! That also means getting rid of a lot of stuff we were keeping “just in case”. I think we’ve managed to get rid of over half the stuff that we put into our storage space. This coming weekend, we move it all back into our finished basement and I’m excited to see if we got rid of enough excess.

Since Hunter is getting his own small bedroom downstairs, I’ve been busy repainting Isabella’s bedroom and setting it up as her own! She is so happy. I was surprised (and pleased!!) when she chose calming pastels that remind her of cottage life. I’ve already repainted it (minus the touch-ups which I will tackle in a month or so- like the ceiling. oops) and it looks so zen in there!

I think Hunter getting a brand new chic bathroom downstairs motivated me to finish the upstairs bathroom. It’s 3/4 of the way there, now. I have it painted, shelves put up and stylized, and the cupboards organized. We still have to change the toilet seat lid (it’s broken!), switch out the mirror to “his and hers” separate ones, and remove the popcorn ceiling. I can’t handle any more major jobs for awhile, so the popcorn ceiling mayyyy have to wait until next year.

So, with all of that going on, it’s no wonder my skin is as stressed out as I am! I guess the kids and I will have to have fun with face masks this summer- as well as eating lots of seasonal veggies!

Massive amount of better quality photos coming soon! I’m becoming very proud of our little home. 🙂

In the meantime, here are some sneak peeks taken with my phone:

That shared bedroom life. When Isabella and Hunter shared, it was always like this. They picked the colours and the curtain was to divide Isabella’s sleeping area from Hunter’s on the floor (not shown here).

In progress….and, already, wayyyyy better.

In progress play area. Very calm and accessible.
