• How I Stay Motivated To Workout.

What motivates me to workout is not what you think. Yeah, I want more energy and I want to look good in clothing…but those two things don’t keep me motivated long-term. They should. But they don’t. If I rely on that, well, I find myself on the couch, eating gluten-free snacks and crocheting instead of going downstairs to lift weights or ride the exercise bike! I also don’t feel inspired by all of the young, fit, twenty-year-old role models flooding IG, since some of their bodies seem perpetually out of reach for me. The biggest motivator for me is seeing…

  • Halfway to Banff….

We are halfway through the week and it is almost time for me to go on my girl getaway! I am going to something called the Sweat Alberta Retreat with girls from my fitness group! If you are new here, I should backtrack. A year or two ago now, I bought a fitness program online that you can print out and do at home. It is called “BBG: Bikini Body Guide” by Kayla Itsines. It has an enormous Instagram following and that was a big draw for me because I love IG! I figured it would keep me motivated seeing…

  • Being Attached to Fear.

I get attached to STUFF. Sometimes it is the memory of buying it. The anticipation of it being yours. Or it is the memory of the person that gave it to you. If it was someone special or a defining moment in your relationship when you received it, that only makes it more special. I have tons of “special” moments in the back of my closet and I don’t need to uncover the objects, from underneath the pile of clothes to donate, to dust off those memories.  So why do I keep them? Fear. Fear that if I let go…

  • Inspired to be….

Today I had coffee with a good friend. We were talking about how I have started to wake up every morning to work out and she had this to say, “You inspire me to…. feel inspired.” I laughed and took that as one of the greatest compliments ever. It’s great to have such intelligent and witty friends. I am blessed. Which of your friends inspires you or makes you laugh? • Music You Can Work Out To

It’s Friday! I am exhausted. What a long week we had. I did a LOT of volunteering at the kid’s school, which meant my writing took a back seat (which I hate), but the kids loved it. I will post about my Children’s Festival and library adventures on Monday for you all to read, once I’ve had time to process and properly write it.   In the meantime, I did a great treadmill workout this week. I sped up when the music did so I could “dance along” and there were a few gems. Here are some of the highlights,…

  • My Fitness Journey- The Rest of It (So Far)

Happy Friday! This last week I used PMS as an excuse to not work out as hard or with full effort. I don’t know if any of you girls have used that excuse to avoid fitness, but I just did! Not a great one, I admit it. I did my workouts but sort of half-heartedly. I did yoga a couple of days too, but only for 30 mins instead of the full hour. It was definitely better than nothing but the whole time my heart felt distant from it. I am at that horrid part of exercising where the gains…

  • I Still Hate Mornings But Haven’t Stopped Gaining Strength.

It is Friday and time to reflect on my past week. I wanted to share my fitness story with you, but I am busy sorting through that history and pictures, as I know a visual is always nice, and I haven’t finished going through all of it yet. I will do a history post next week; from my skinny childhood to the tanking of my metabolism, to my anorexia, to my binge eating, to being healthy, back to unhealthy, and my current life-is-a-journey-strategy. It’s been an exhausting ride. I would like you to have a peek of it though so…

  • Why I Want to Cry When My Alarm Goes Off

I am NOT a morning person. I never have been. I take about two hours to feel like my eyes are fully open and I often feel energized at night time. Night time is when I suddenly feel the urge to start giant craft projects or when I have my best writing ideas. My daughter calls me Snorlax, the famous sleepy Pokemon character who seldom wakes up and is motivated by food. She’s not far off. My kids laugh at me when I sleep in on weekends, asking me why I “love sleeping so much”. It’s not that I’m depressed…

  • Making Progress at Physio

I went to physiotherapy this morning and it was wonderful. I love the lady I go to. She listens and is very activity based in her approach, which suits me just fine. Plus at the end we do neat stuff to me, like wrap me in a warm blanket and send little pulses in to my shoulder blade. It felt as if teeny fingers were massaging me in a warm bath. Which I enjoyed and almost fell asleep to. After that she taped my back straight so my shoulder won’t slump forward like it wants to! It feels interesting to…
