The title is a message to myself. I have decided that half of my issues are over-thinking food. Panicking about whether I am eating right is tying my stomach up in knots, making it impossible to digest. Could I eat more fermented foods? Sure. Could I cut out alcohol completely, instead of the 3-5 glasses a month I consume? Sure. Or could I maybe, just maybe, do it all in moderation and breathe easier? Hells yeah. When we were in a Cuban resort for a week (I know, I know, shut up about it already! Well, I can’t. It was…

I have been trying something new. I am hopelessly addicted to coffee but I have been trying to cut down, as I have a very sensitive system. Thank goodness for green tea! I have cut down my caffeine consumption to two cups in the morning, and the occasional third cup in the afternoon before 2pm. I try anyway. This past week I have been drinking more coffee than water and -surprise, surprise- my skin is terrible, my stomach upset and I feel irritable. But coffee, I still love you. I just need to quit you in the afternoons. After…

I went on a ramble about Japan yesterday! And guess what Husband found in the back of the cupboard? A western version of a Japanese staple! It was given to me by one of my fave people on Earth and I meant to open it but then forgot. I have been snacking on it all day! So good. It’s this: For real, try it. It looks weird but it is so yummy. You can use it in recipes, on sushi rice, as a chopped up topping ….but I have been eating them as if they’re wafer thin…

Yesterday was a big day for me. Josh left for work really early and came back just after lunch so that I could go to my physical and get my test results at the doctor. I anxiously waited in the waiting room, literally sweating: AND IT WAS GOOD NEWS. Two ultrasounds and a bunch of blood tests later and we have found….. I am not celiac! I do not even have a non-celiac gluten intolerance! I am only gluten sensitive. So much relief. She said that if I was gluten-intolerant it would show up in my lab results. My inability…

I am currently being forced to eat gluten so that my doctor can test me for Celiac disease. I eat it at breakfast and go for healthier, as-gluten-free-as-possible, delicious options through out the rest of the day. Today I wanted something that reminded me of a sandwich- butĀ without the bread. I didn’t come up with a new idea really, but this is a really delicious bread-free lunch you may want to try. I made my own variation. So here are the steps. Ingredients: 1 fresh and ripe tomato cottage cheese 1 egg Sriracha sauce salt and pepper …

I love our Community Shared AgricultureĀ farm. We picked Eagle Creek Farms which is close to Calgary, AB, and is run by Farmer John and his family. They deliver the veggies and herbs weekly to a nearby farmer’s market. I don’t have a garden or a yard and a potted plant garden on my balcony can only yield so much. I don’t often get to the farmer’s markets so supporting a local farm and getting veggies once a week from them is a dream! I’ve made so many things. Here I used the cilantro to make salsa, cucumbers to make pickles,…

Always do your research before trying something new. Even if it is a natural material or vitamin. Maybe, especially if. I didn’t read about what side effects eating maca powder raw could have, and I really should have. I started taking maca powder raw in my coffee or smoothie to help regulate my periods and clear up my skin. It worked like a charm. I did this after reading one blog post. A month and a half later I could barely eat without getting stomach cramps or sweating and I was very gassy. I thought maybe drinking too much coffee…
