• Super Easy Tomato Sauce

The other night I was super rushed for time. I worked late and it seemed that supper time snuck up on me. We had activities to rush to after supper (#momlife, right?), so as soon as I got the kids from school it was time to start supper. If you work and do ANYTHING ELSE in life, you’ve had these nights too. We had a speaker come talk to our school council meeting and she said, ‘You’re busy. I’m busy. We are all too busy all of the time so there is no need to talk about that anymore. We make…

  • Herb Garden Woes

Inspired by my own outdoor garden success and urged on by pretty Pinterest successes….I decided to jump in to indoor herb gardening! Little teacups and tiny terracotta pots filled with scrumptious homemade herbs? Count me in. I told my dear friend that I would love an indoor herb garden and, that sweet soul, she set one up for us while we were in Cuba for a wedding. I came home to an indoor growing light installed with a timer in my cabinet. I was overjoyed. Some plants were all set up! I ended up not knowing how to take care…

  • Beakerhead 2016

In Calgary, there is a yearly event called “Beakerhead” which they proclaim is “A Smash Up of Art, Science, & Engineering”. I was only able to go for a few hours during the day and, even without the lights on the impressive displays lit up, it was really cool. I went while my kids were at school but next year I plan on taking them on a tour of the displays. Since I only had one day free, my friend and I focused on seeing the Chain Reaction pieces. We managed to see a few, in between stops to shop…

  • The Meow Foundation Adopt-a-thon: Interviewing Some Very Special Cats.

On Saturday, September 17th, I was thrilled to be invited to the Meow Foundation’s new location to interview cats at their Adopt-a-thon. I am a huge cat lover and one of my favourite felines, Thorin, is a rescue from their foundation.     Meow Foundation is no-kill cat rescue center in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. An acronym for “Make Each One Wanted”, it was founded in 2000 by 11 people who wanted to save stray or abandoned cats. It is a cage-less environment that allows the cats and kittens to play, stretch out, relax, and really be themselves. I chatted with…

  • Royal Canadian Circus Weekend

Sometimes weekends fly by. This one did. We were very busy, it seemed, which is unusual for us. Normally we try to keep weekends low-key. We all need the time to become hermits and recharge. I never regret saying no to weekend plans. That sounds awfully anti-social, doesn’t it? I think we are just so in tune to how we work now and, with the weeks being so busy, it is our only time to reconnect as a foursome. My little tribe of 4. I love us. As a result of our busy weekend, though, I can’t help thinking- “Monday,…

  • A Wondrous Weekend: Atwood and Penner

Good morning! I hope your last week was as busy but as fantastic as mine was. Now I just need a week entirely alone to curl up and process it all. (Seriously).   The beginning of the week was the long weekend, but our week really kicked off for us on Wednesday, when we got to see Fred Penner live. Amazing Canadian children’s singer that I grew up watching. He is from Winnipeg, Manitoba and has a list of hits that include “The Cat Came Back” and “Sandwiches”. Fred Penner used to be a part of my day when I…

  • A Road Trip Where You Can Hug An Alligator.

My friend Randey and I have been friends for a long time. We have always liked the same quirky movies and music. It made sense that we would also both love day trips and local exploration. We are very proud of the varied and gorgeous landscape Alberta has to offer and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Randey is a wealth of information about the landscapes we visit. He should work as a tour guide for foreign visitors that want to go off the beaten path or the tourist areas. After our first road trip together I took an online quiz…

  • Calgary Staycation

We live off the beaten path in a sort of suburban area. We used to be the outskirts but now are a residential area, with older houses and not much for shops. I don’t even think my children realize we live in a city. I think they believe they live in a small town just outside of a city. For that reason, my son always brings up this weekend as the one where we “went to that city with all that cool stuff and the good food.” It makes me laugh, but I have to agree, it was a…

  • Calgary Comic Con

A ‘staycation’ was in order for us, so we were all looking forward to Comic Con. It crept up on me! All of a sudden it was here. I was fairly unprepared. The kids wanted elaborate costumes but we didn’t have time in the end so I patched some stuff together from their wardrobe and Value Village finds, and it worked and it was super cute. Izzy was Pikachu and Hunter was Batman. Hello yellow clothing, cute red cheeks and a Pikachu toque, with a foam tail I cut out last minute. Izzy brought her sloth purse (made by a…

  • Staycation in Downtown Calgary

It is Wednesday already! Where did Monday and Tuesday go? I have been frantically working and crocheting presents. I have to get them all ready to mail before the 11th so the pressure is on. Every time I think I have a free second it gets filled up by work, laundry, Xmas parties, chores, sick days. This weekend was a much needed break from everything. I had a second to breathe in a huge drink of fresh air and be irresponsible and let go. I got a Xmas bonus from the couple I babysit for. A staycation! They took our…
