• Early Resolutions

I have already been thinking of changes I want to make in my life. My life has been so busy that I haven’t had time to sit down and give myself a moment. Sadly, meditation has also fallen by the wayside. My mind’s thoughts always seem to start with, “If I had a bit of time I would…” so I am basing my choices on this. I think if I follow through on these promises to myself I will also find myself at a healthy weight, with clear skin, and with more patience as a result.   EARLY RESOLUTIONS Make…

  • A Year of Social Connection and Personal Reinvention.

I have been spending a little bit of time on the internet lately. Well, I have been spending a little bit of time procrastinating lately. It doesn’t feel like December so I don’t feel the crunch to get my handmade Christmas gifts done like I should. But I will! So while I was procrastinating I have noticed there have been a lot of “change the rules” or “break the mold” kind of websites that are becoming very popular and profitable. I predict this will be a year of more social connection (how many websites encourage you to take time away…

  • Staycation in Downtown Calgary

It is Wednesday already! Where did Monday and Tuesday go? I have been frantically working and crocheting presents. I have to get them all ready to mail before the 11th so the pressure is on. Every time I think I have a free second it gets filled up by work, laundry, Xmas parties, chores, sick days. This weekend was a much needed break from everything. I had a second to breathe in a huge drink of fresh air and be irresponsible and let go. I got a Xmas bonus from the couple I babysit for. A staycation! They took our…

  • Play-dough!!

So everyone must have a fave childhood craft or toy that they went back to time and time again. Ours was play-dough. My husband’s was Lego, but all I remember is play-dough. We used hand me down kitchen utensils and re-purposed craft things and built a play-dough world. Food, animals, houses…you name it. It kept us endlessly entertained.   Until today my kid’s craft and utensil supplies for play-dough sucked and they still had fun. All the kids are at school, so after cleaning up lunch, I ran to the store and stocked up on supplies. I got a little…

  • In Honour of Japan

I went on a ramble about Japan yesterday! And guess what Husband found in the back of the cupboard? A western version of a Japanese staple! It was given to me by one of my fave people on Earth and I meant to open it but then forgot. I have been snacking on it all day! So good.   It’s this:     For real, try it. It looks weird but it is so yummy. You can use it in recipes, on sushi rice, as a chopped up topping ….but I have been eating them as if they’re wafer thin…

  • Why I Love Weight Training

This is our weight bench. It sits in front of the treadmill and my myriad of inspirational posters when I’m working out. When I hang out with the kids down there; after the weight bench has been pushed up against the wall again to make room for toys, I read those posters and it gives me actual motivation. So they aren’t there just for kicks. I was first introduced to the fitness world beyond cardio in Japan. I was there to teach English. At my first job it was basically tutoring. During a class, an older male student told me,…

  • Good News at the Doctor!

Yesterday was a big day for me. Josh left for work really early and came back just after lunch so that I could go to my physical and get my test results at the doctor. I anxiously waited in the waiting room, literally sweating: AND IT WAS GOOD NEWS. Two ultrasounds and a bunch of blood tests later and we have found….. I am not celiac! I do not even have a non-celiac gluten intolerance! I am only gluten sensitive. So much relief. She said that if I was gluten-intolerant it would show up in my lab results. My inability…

  • Creating an Independent Human.

I failed to write a blog post a day *sad face!!* because I didn’t come on yesterday. I had a headache, Izzy was hacking up a lung, and Hunter had to go to the dr yesterday. He had a temp of 104F and we found out he has a double ear infection. Poor little guy was feverish for 4 full days. His fever broke today at his nap-time and I have never felt such relief!! Isabella has the strongest immune system. This cough is the longest she has been sick. She gets a cold here and there but usually a…

  • Raising a Highly Sensitive Child.

Today was tiring. Hunter has an ear infection and his fever fluctuated between 101-103F today. He puked at 3am and again 3 times during the day. I set him up with shows on a laptop upstairs and a bottle of coconut water. He sat quietly and watched, saying it hurt too much to lay down and that was what was causing him to throw up. Smart. So he sat up, surrounded by pillows. I came to check on him every 30 minutes. The kid I babysit was in the basement, also set up with shows since he also seemed low…
