• Music You Can Work Out To

It’s Friday! I am exhausted. What a long week we had. I did a LOT of volunteering at the kid’s school, which meant my writing took a back seat (which I hate), but the kids loved it. I will post about my Children’s Festival and library adventures on Monday for you all to read, once I’ve had time to process and properly write it.   In the meantime, I did a great treadmill workout this week. I sped up when the music did so I could “dance along” and there were a few gems. Here are some of the highlights,…

  • A New Bed for Izzy and A Lot of Reading

Was it just me or did the weekend zoom past???? Happy Monday, everyone! This weekend we sent the kids off to a play-date and together, my husband and I, put together an IKEA loft bed for Isabella. It’s funny how the smallest changes make the biggest difference. We changed out her bed (one half of a bunk bed that could be built separate from each other or kept as one piece), and put in a loft bed. Izzy doesn’t play with a ton of toys anymore. She has her favourites and they fit in a couple small bins. Her real…

  • Kid Fitness: Our Little Ones are Motivated to Move

If your kids are anything like ours, they always want to move. We try to encourage it as much as possible. This being Calgary and it being “only” May, it ended up snowing and then raining and then snowing and being miserable all day yesterday. (Today the sun is out, because, Canada.) Of course, that was the night Hunter wanted to go for an after-dinner walk. Although none of us were up for it, we did set up an impromptu floor hockey match in the basement. We live in a townhouse where the levels are split up by stairs and…

  • Mother’s Day Weekend AND My Sixth Wedding Anniversary

I hope all of you momma’s had an enormously good Mother’s Day Weekend. I spent a lot of it wondering how the mothers from Fort McMurray were holding up, and if the Syrian refugee mothers would be celebrated somehow. Let’s keep them in our thoughts. I donated to both causes this weekend, not sure how I could handle such a tragedy. Especially since my weekend was the opposite- my weekend was exquisite. I spent Saturday finishing up cleaning and shopping for my husband’s anniversary present. I was on a budget but found a suitable present within my budget. Just those…

  • How To Find Your “FitFam”

It is raining outside after a long week of harsh heat and sunlight. Here in Calgary, we were not accustomed to the sudden heat. Spring to sudden desert-like weather made most of us cranky! Now it is, mercifully, gray and raining. The weather is cool and the ground is getting the moisture it so desperately needs. I have been dragging my body out of bed the last couple of days again. Yesterday, I did a little BBG HIIT training but all of the shoulder work had the bursitis in my right shoulder acting up, so I had to mix up…

  • Things My Husband Has Taught Me

My Husband is very wise. Here are some fun things his steady, calm, patient attitude has taught me: Things always go on sale. There is no need to pay full price for (almost) anything Some things may be fated, but hard work gives fate a helping hand and will lead you to it faster and surer Kids need limits to feel safe and loved Being outside is a natural anti-depressant and when you don’t feel like doing that at all, that is when you need it the most Good things come to those that wait; but also to those that…

  • My Fitness Journey- The Rest of It (So Far)

Happy Friday! This last week I used PMS as an excuse to not work out as hard or with full effort. I don’t know if any of you girls have used that excuse to avoid fitness, but I just did! Not a great one, I admit it. I did my workouts but sort of half-heartedly. I did yoga a couple of days too, but only for 30 mins instead of the full hour. It was definitely better than nothing but the whole time my heart felt distant from it. I am at that horrid part of exercising where the gains…

  • My Fitness Journey, The Early Years.

When I was younger, I was skinny. Not thin. Skinny. I grew up like a weed and not out at all. I ate four breakfasts, a million snacks, a huge lunch and more snacks and then dinner. My mom would joke that I had a lumberjack’s belly. A bottomless pit was also a fave comparison.   I then hit puberty. I thought my body would stay the same forever. I felt betrayed when I found hair in my armpits and would pluck them out. I denied the need for a bra and would tape my breasts to my body. I…

  • It’s All About the Wording. How We Can Change Our Parenting Strategy.

I had a thought the other day. In our front hall is a mess of coats and shoes and at the end of this controlled chaos is a spot for the kid’s backpacks. Just behind that is a lovely wall adorned with a mirror, three lovely art prints and hooks for our favourite scarves.  So why does it make my kids cringe? Because, silly me, I have decided to put the kid’s chore charts there as well, just beside the scarves and under the art prints. In big BOLD letters it yells at them CHORE CHART. The chores they…

  • I Still Hate Mornings But Haven’t Stopped Gaining Strength.

It is Friday and time to reflect on my past week. I wanted to share my fitness story with you, but I am busy sorting through that history and pictures, as I know a visual is always nice, and I haven’t finished going through all of it yet. I will do a history post next week; from my skinny childhood to the tanking of my metabolism, to my anorexia, to my binge eating, to being healthy, back to unhealthy, and my current life-is-a-journey-strategy. It’s been an exhausting ride. I would like you to have a peek of it though so…
