• In Sickness and In Health.

It's time to take my power back. It's time to give myself permission to move forward. Enough of feeling powerless and hopeless. I wake up frustrated and feeling defeated. Also, I have been jealous of everyone's everything lately, a sure sign that I'm feeling stuck and need to change things- drastically, if possible. Josh agreed to be with me in sickness and in health. Right now, it's sickness but I want to go back to health.

  • Why You Should Wear Sunscreen (Even On Cloudy Days)

I’m militant about people wearing sunscreen.  I remember learning about our depleting ozone layer in school and being horrified- and it’s worse now! People have a lot of excuses to not wear sunscreen but I really, really, really want people to change their minds. The difference between UVA and UVB rays confuses people- including myself, so I looked it up. This information is from the University of Iowa: “There are many different types of rays present in sunlight. The rays that are most damaging to our skin are called ultraviolet (UV) rays. There are two basic types of ultraviolet rays that…

  • Choosing Mental Help That Is Right For You: Therapist or Psychologist?

Whether it’s because of a tragedy or just to help you get through your day, I strongly believe that no one should be ashamed of seeking mental health help. Therapists and psychologists can be invaluable to your well-being. Your pain is your pain. As Christine says in the movie, Lady Bird: “Different things can be sad….it’s not all war!” If you can’t get out of bed in the morning because everything feels too much, you may want to reach out to a psychologist or therapist. BetterHelp can help you decide which one you need and hook you up with one…

  • Whole Food Diary: April 23-27

I was concerned that eating more mindfully would take a long time to make a difference, but changes are happening!! I wake up easier in the morning, my nails are stronger, and my bowel movements are normal. I know it seems like TMI but bowel movements are so important! That’s how we get rid of toxins and how your gut communicates its health to you….so I have learned to stop being grossed-out and to pay attention to them. I also find that I have more energy for workouts and get less light-headed after them. All the wins! It’s been hard,…

  • Leaky Gut and Flaky Eyes: How It Happened to Me and What I’m Doing About It.

My health has slowly been improving this year. I suddenly decided I didn’t want to sit on my hands and just accept that my health would never be great again. As you know from previous posts, I just coasted through life eating whatever I wanted and exercising sporadically until my late twenties. Not because I was naturally skinny and comfortable being that way, but because I was lazy. I swung between being chubby and downright fat and had terrible acne. When I had my kids, I focused a bit more on my health, but it took getting really sick to…

  • Gut Health Help: Article Roundup.

I have massive problems with my gut health and I have had them since suffering severe food poisoning two years ago. Since that day, my gut has turned into an unhappy monster. I now have a severe intolerance to gluten (although my doctor says she suspects that I have always had a sensitivity to it) and I am adverse to a bunch of other foods (including sweet potatoes! *tear*). What happened? I was out with my mother-in-law and Grammy-in-law a couple of years ago for my husband’s bday dinner. The restaurant we were thinking of was takeout only. Since it…

  • Gut Health Update

Well, we made it to the end of the week! It has been freezing cold here and my kids have been going a little stir crazy. I have been distracting them with chores, playing with their new Christmas gifts and movies. Isabella has been watching the blu-ray of Anne of Green Gables that we borrowed from the library. I used to have the VHS of it (just dated myself) and I watched it until I wore it out. I was Anne growing up, from age 8 onwards, once I found my voice. I was so excited for Isabella to see…

  • The Hands of Wonder Woman, The Body of Baymax

Hello! Today I feel nearly recovered from my cold. Our family was sick for a month and a half with tiny breaks in between where we were well. It was brutal. I had the flu, a cold, another cold and then the worst cold of all! I currently have a nose that could light the way for Santa’s sleigh, it is that red. I have the driest skin on my lips of all time and my adult acne has returned thanks to the effects of cold pills and subsisting on comfort food (every night is GF pasta night!). I also…

  • The Konmari Method and Saving Money

On this cold day that feels like it will snow, I am inside doing laundry and reflecting on the state of my house, which I successfully ignored during the warmer months. It is a cluttered mess. Maybe not by some’s standards, but by mine it is. Even trying to find the right winter clothing has been painful….and, by the way, I can’t believe I have to think about that already!! My mom in Saskatchewan already has a foot of snow. Oh, Canada. So what has being stuck inside on cold days made me think about? DECLUTTERING! And saving money because…

  • Stress At This Time Of Year

Aaaahhhhh! Deep breaths everyone. Kids or no kids, everyone feels exhausted and stressed this time of year. Summer is over, winter schedules are upon us and it feels like we must get our house in order….am I right? I have a lot in the air right now. I added on a whole bunch of wellness courses and even those seem to be “obligations”. I also went back to having a hard time saying no to people….that “year of yes” people blog about, where they say yes no matter what to “experience more”…..yup, unintentionally had that year. On top of that,…
