    I used to dread October. I saw it as the end of everything. October seemed like September’s dirge song. (Is dirge song a repetitive statement?)     Being a stay-at-home mom is a job. Actually, it is many jobs. Without breaks. Or bonuses. It is the hardest job I have ever done, and I have had 3 jobs at once.     My kids go back to school tomorrow. It’s insane how quickly the summer went by, but I guess that is what happens when you are on different road trips for 3/4 of it. I may have been a bit ambitious planning THREE different long distance trips in two months. Between the trips we had just enough time to unpack, do the laundry and pack up again.     When was the last time you thought of a bigger goal than your own comfort? When was the last time you took time to protect your wellness and mental happiness? My daughter did each of those in two days straight and inspires me more every day. My daughter turned 7 years old yesterday.     Do you know what I realized as I dropped the kids off at their grandma’s for a week? I haven’t taught my kids how to dial a phone, or make an emergency phone call! I am kind of appalled with myself.     On my 35th birthday, my mother-in-law took the kids for the weekend and we got to get away. It was just a couple of nights but it felt longer. Both cities are so close they would also make suitable day trips if you live in Calgary, Alberta. We got to Banff on Friday, in late afternoon, and checked in to our hotel. High Country Inn is very cute and I would definitely stay there again in a heartbeat. Loved the (almost) overly woodsy lobby and the friendly hotel staff.     Mother’s Day, as my husband let me know this morning, was invented by a lady to celebrate her mother, as she never had kids of her own, but she ended up resenting the holiday. How strange!     Here is a photo of me with my new Tardis necklace (blurry, too bad), sweaty from the hot day outside and hot C-Train ride home. I always said I wanted something from Doctor Who, but nothing too garish. This was perfect. I bought it, last minute, from Comic Con this time around.
