• The Hands of Wonder Woman, The Body of Baymax

Hello! Today I feel nearly recovered from my cold. Our family was sick for a month and a half with tiny breaks in between where we were well. It was brutal. I had the flu, a cold, another cold and then the worst cold of all! I currently have a nose that could light the way for Santa’s sleigh, it is that red. I have the driest skin on my lips of all time and my adult acne has returned thanks to the effects of cold pills and subsisting on comfort food (every night is GF pasta night!). I also…

  • Happy 2017!

It is a new year! I am wishing you all a…..       There is so much pressure to perform better, faster, stronger and more efficiently in the new year. When I was in my twenties, I would write down all of these super-lofty “be perfect” goals the night before New Year’s eve. I would go out New Year’s eve with all the pressure of having the “best night ever!!” and try to have fun. The introvert in me wanted to stay in, but I felt that I would be seen as weird not wanting to go out, so…

  • Happy Holidays!!

It is Christmas Eve Eve you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I am more excited than the kids…. I will see you all next year with more blog posts and news. I hope you all have a very merry holiday and that you are with people you love, safe and warm. Happy Holidays and good riddance to 2016. Bring it on, 2017!

  • For the Love of Collecting

Okay, so does anyone love tsum tsums as much as I do? ( I know you do!) I bought a little plastic one for my kids and I fell in love with it more than they did. In fact, my son Hunter gave me his Buzz Lightyear one. Perhaps it is because it reminds me of the cuteness of toys and the rage of collecting while I was in Japan in my early twenties? Stuff like this was everywhere in Japan! Maybe it is my addiction to everything cute? Nostalgia? Not sure, but I vowed to buy 1 and have 5…..…

  • What Does “Highly Sensitive Children” Mean?

Isabella is talkative and opinionated, quick to argue her point or get angry about the injustices of the world (she has a temper). She gets mad when upset- and confrontational. Hunter is quietly talkative, quick to hide in his room and draw or play Lego, and wants a hug when there is unfairness apparent to him. He gets tearful and whiny when upset- and withdrawn. They are both Highly Sensitive Children! I speak a lot about their highly sensitive nature but I haven’t explained it properly for a long time. Anyone with a highly sensitive child will have read the…

  • We Got The Flu! Did You?

Hey! We have been sick. Tis the season, I guess. (You get the flu! And you get the flu! And you get the flu! -haha) My kids threw up for 3 days straight, a break of a couple days, then again threw up for a couple of days. Despite early bedtimes, drinking lots of water, and eating a lot of garlic and oranges. We tried to be proactive but sometimes the germs are stronger. It was rough. Isabella usually throws up a max of three times but threw up 6 times in one night. I was the only one of…

  • A Gratitude Practice My Daughter Will Actually Do

The idea of acknowledging and extending your gratitude is everywhere. Suddenly it is a buzz-worthy trend. I see articles about starting a gratitude journal or jar everywhere. I’ve tried to keep up a gratitude journal so many times but I’ve only made it happen two days in a row and a gratitude jar is neat but once I had a few papers in there, I never added to them, and I never looked at them. I know it is a good idea to focus your mind on the positive rather than the negative, but I hardly find time to work…

  • When Schedules Change

Hello friends. How are you this Monday? Over here, we are still adjusting to the new schedule. I don’t know if I mentioned it, but my husband just got a new job (yay!!), and he started last week. It turned our whole schedule upside down. Our weekend was super busy so it was harder to jump back into the new (ish) routine that we had started last week. Especially for the kids. Every time someone asks me about Josh’s new schedule I say, “Oh, it’s good. An adjustment” and Izzy shouts, “Terrible! We never see him anymore!!” We were spoiled…

  • Remembering Leonard Cohen

When I was younger, a toddler even, my parents (especially my mom) would play Leonard Cohen on the stereo while she cleaned during the week. We often played his music on Sundays- our day to play loud music and read or bake. Music was our religion since my mom is agnostic and my dad is atheist (or was). I grew up listening to Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, Tom Petty, Iggy Pop, David Bowie….and more obscure and eclectic artists. There was also a lot of heavier rock and folk music mixed in. Leonard Cohen was one of the folk artists that…

  • Making Time for Myself

The title of this blog post is a bit of a misdirection. It is more of a public promise to myself to do just that. Currently, I rarely make time for myself. My husband calls me a “slave driver to myself”. When I did the Discovery Dyet this year (more on that later- in a word, fantastic) I found that I am an Analytical/Driver personality. It means a lot of things, but one thing that applies here is that I am a self-motivated person that can very easily focus on work and ignore the rest of life. I will put working…
