Be a Rebel. Be a positive thinker. I was standing with a bunch of moms once. I didn’t really know any of them. It was one of those weird city things where you end up in a group of random people and you eavesdrop on their conversation. They didn’t know each other that well either. Chit–chat ensued and they started to bond the only way they knew how. First, they bonded over their complaint about how hard parenting is, which I don’t wholly disagree with. Then they talked about how the weather was terrible, how they don’t get enough sleep,…

My kids go back to school tomorrow. It’s insane how quickly the summer went by, but I guess that is what happens when you are on different road trips for 3/4 of it. I may have been a bit ambitious planning THREE different long distance trips in two months. Between the trips we had just enough time to unpack, do the laundry and pack up again. Something else I made a mistake doing was planning their last trip at the END of August. We don’t have enough time to get them back in to routine for school. Their sleep schedules…

For kids that have trouble with anxiety, nervousness in crowds, or are quick to react emotionally, there is nothing better than a good book for them to gain perspective. Here are some that I have read to my kids that have struck a chord and opened up discussion. They teach coping skills to help kids bounce back from their problems on their own, so that they will be more resilient in the future. Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell. Both Molly Lou Melon books that Patty Lovell has published are amazing. They are all about being yourself in the face…

Here is a photo of me with my new Tardis necklace (blurry, too bad), sweaty from the hot day outside and hot C-Train ride home. I always said I wanted something from Doctor Who, but nothing too garish. This was perfect. I bought it, last minute, from Comic Con this time around. It didn’t cost very much but it makes me very happy. I bought the necklace on Sunday, just as Comic Con was shutting down. I wore it all Monday with a smile on my face, thinking that I should watch all of the Doctor Who episodes again. Especially…

I realize I never updated on the story I started the other day about the Girl on Girl Emotional Warfare. Everything is fine now and it turns out Izzy was the instigator. The moment I put too much pressure on her at home to keep her writing tidy, she took it out on a girl at school and called her work “scribbles”. *facepalm* Needless to say the girl was hurt and the hurt feelings went back and forth. Izzy apologized to the girl and they are friends again. All of this could have been avoided if I put less…

Today was tiring. Hunter has an ear infection and his fever fluctuated between 101-103F today. He puked at 3am and again 3 times during the day. I set him up with shows on a laptop upstairs and a bottle of coconut water. He sat quietly and watched, saying it hurt too much to lay down and that was what was causing him to throw up. Smart. So he sat up, surrounded by pillows. I came to check on him every 30 minutes. The kid I babysit was in the basement, also set up with shows since he also seemed low…
