• Why I’ve Had to Give Up Coffee

Coffee. That single word can bring up so many memories- maybe of parents or grandparents drinking it, maybe of a special coffee date or maybe as recent as this morning when you were brewing your first cup. I know that my first thought when my alarm goes off is,”I can’t wait to have my coffee”. Coffee is more than a drink to me- it is my time in the morning to regroup. I drop the kids at the bus and then I come home to make my cup of coffee. It is a ritual I enjoy and that can’t seem…

  • Monday Feels

Today feels like….   We had such a busy weekend that I’m having trouble getting back into the groove. I hope everyone had a happy Father’s Day weekend, whether it was celebrating with one or in memory of one. Our family had a great time. We went to The Hangar Flight Museum all day Saturday and then Heritage Park on Sunday, followed by (amazing!) sushi at Momoyama Sushi here in Calgary. But now, exhausted. I cannot have caffeine since I am still doing the Gut Makeover meal plan, so strong herbal tea smells will have to revive me. Have a…

  • The Gut Makeover

I’m almost finished this book: I’m impressed with it so far and ready to try it in June. I am sick of always feeling crampy and bloated after meals. I feel tired, have horrible acne and sore joints. There are a lot of other symptoms, as well, that cross the line from “discomfort” in to “chronic illness”. I have leaky gut in a big way. I have a couple of friends who have suffered from it and have healed themselves using a similar diet that is outlined in this book. I can’t wait to start eating from an elimination diet…

  • Green Tea Vs Coffee

I have been trying something new. I am hopelessly addicted to coffee but I have been trying to cut down, as I have a very sensitive system. Thank goodness for green tea! I have cut down my caffeine consumption to two cups in the morning, and the occasional third cup in the afternoon before 2pm. I try anyway. This past week I have been drinking more coffee than water and -surprise, surprise- my skin is terrible, my stomach upset and I feel irritable. But coffee, I still love you. I just need to quit you in the afternoons. After…

  • The Comfort of Caffeine.

There is something extremely comforting about the smell of coffee. Some studies classify it as a drug and no wonder. It can be intoxicating to me. Freshly brewed has a  slightly sticky molasses smell that is delicious.  If I walk in to a house that is permeated by that smell I feel like I’m home.  Maybe that is strange for such a common smell. The only other smell that makes me feel that comfortable is the pages of books….   Perhaps it’s that the smell reminds me of family? My earliest memories are my mom and dad with coffee breath…
