• Survival Mode

Remember the Wizard of Oz? It is one of my son’s favourite movies. You know when Dorothy is trying to figure herself out and she gets so stressed out that she dreams of Oz? Yeah, that’s my life in a nutshell right now. I’ve been so stressed that I am in survival mode. I just go from one obligation to the next then pass out on my couch at night. The end of the school year is closing in and there is so much to do with two kids in full-time school.  All I seem to do is jump from…

  • You Crochet, Right?

I was working away on my projects this weekend, getting ready for a summer overhaul of my Etsy shop, BabblingPandaYarns. I was looking up crochet things and came across this meme:     It made me laugh because people do say funny things like this to me from time to time. If you craft with yarn, you know how expensive it can get and how long this would take someone. (Beyond the fact that I think this is manufactured lace! Haha). I hope this made you smile. X.

  • 5 Ways I Fight Anxiety & Depression

This year has been a lot. That’s the best way I can describe it- just a lot going on. It has been more frantic and busy and emotional than other years so, of course, my anxiety and depression have been higher than other years. Fortunately, I don’t rely on meds as I did in my teens and my early twenties, but I cannot just ignore it so I have found alternate coping skills. On top of these skills, I have found that a better diet with less junk food, no pop and gluten-free has helped a ton, as has my…

  • Looking Back On Myself as a Formally Judgmental Mom.

I used to be so judgmental. I was judgmental because when I was a new mom, I felt out of my depth and wanted to feel like everyone else was doing it wrong if I felt that way about myself. Sound familiar? Now, I see a mom walking her kids to school with her pajama pants on and my immediate thought is not, “Omg, make some effort!” Now I think, “Maybe that person has athletic shorts underneath like I do for their workout when they get home,” or, “Maybe those are her comfiest pants,” or, “Maybe that parent was dealing…

  • Gut Health Help: Article Roundup.

I have massive problems with my gut health and I have had them since suffering severe food poisoning two years ago. Since that day, my gut has turned into an unhappy monster. I now have a severe intolerance to gluten (although my doctor says she suspects that I have always had a sensitivity to it) and I am adverse to a bunch of other foods (including sweet potatoes! *tear*). What happened? I was out with my mother-in-law and Grammy-in-law a couple of years ago for my husband’s bday dinner. The restaurant we were thinking of was takeout only. Since it…

  • Lash Extensions at Loud Lash (Or, Why Did I Wait to Get These?)

I LOVE discovering local businesses. People doing it for themselves rather than chain stores makes me so happy! I think part of that is growing up with my family owning a business and the trials I saw us go through. I want every small business that is worthy of attention to succeed. And I found another worthy business. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was about to go on the Sweat Alberta Retreat.  Since it would be a weekend of sweating and working out, I didn’t really want to mess with mascara every morning. Also, most mascara causes…

  • Kid Time vs. Adult Time vs. Izzy Time

Hello! Does anyone else’s life seem busier as soon as Spring hits?? I love Spring….it’s just SO BUSY. Which is good. My life is full of activity and obligations and love. I just wish that I was 3 people right about now, haha. Every time that I am at my most busy, I always feel my most creative and excited. I want to pile on more things…I have to hold myself back sometimes. Like, bullet journaling…I am fascinated! They are similar to the journals I used to make as a teen but a LOT more organized. Do you have a…

  • Halfway to Banff….

We are halfway through the week and it is almost time for me to go on my girl getaway! I am going to something called the Sweat Alberta Retreat with girls from my fitness group! If you are new here, I should backtrack. A year or two ago now, I bought a fitness program online that you can print out and do at home. It is called “BBG: Bikini Body Guide” by Kayla Itsines. It has an enormous Instagram following and that was a big draw for me because I love IG! I figured it would keep me motivated seeing…

  • Today’s Picnic at the Park.

Today I am looking after my friend’s boy while she is at work. Another dad friend asked if we would all like to go to the neighbouring park with his family. Of course! Way better than the kids being cooped up inside. So the four of us went to the park to meet up with two other parents and their little boys. It was sunny out but the wind was cold. I kept my toque on and played “coat on, coat off” as the sun played peek-a-boo behind the clouds. The kids had so much fun running around. When it…

  • It’s My Birthday!

I am 37 years old this year. I wish I could stay 36 forever. This year I accomplished a lot. It was a good year. Plus, I love the sound of that age- the perfect sweet spot between ‘too-young-to-know-better’ and ‘too-old-to-care’. However, time stops for no one. Onward!   This year I have made myself proud. I have crushed my own fitness boundaries, I have stepped outside my comfort zone and I have faced fears. I started an Etsy business, found a style that works for me, and have learned to say no. I have addressed health issues and taught…
