Poetry is hard. I am no longer the arrogant, emotional 13-year-old I used to be that thought everything she wrote was gold. Poetry is difficult and I am not a free-flowing river of tears and joy any more. I am usually too drained at the end of the day to face my emotions head on and write poetry. And something else I discovered? There is no poetry without a pen and paper. I cannot write it on my laptop with a keyboard. It just doesn’t work right. It sounds as mechanical and stilted as it should being written on a…

Dear Ryan Gosling. take a break if you wanna. I don’t know where girls got this crazy, you’re-the-only-heart throb attitude. You haven’t played a romantic character since The Notebook (which I wasn’t as crazy about as Crazy Stupid Love but have been told umpteen times to re-watch cuz apparently I missed something important). You have played a psycho, an obsessive simpleton, a killer, a drunk, an emotionally shut off player, a criminal, a politician… and none of those roles (though thrilling) are particularly romantic. Even your brilliant band Dead Man’s Bones doesn’t write love songs, persay! You write about ghosts…

I’m 33! I turned 33 years old yesterday so it’s still my “Birthday Weekend”. Today was a lazy day. My actual birthday-day was too. I ate a Tim Horton’s breakfast the Husband snuck out early to go and grab……So spoiled!…… then dropped off my hunk of junk (aka my beloved Maude-mobile that I am mad at for costing us money right now) at our mechanic’s. Then lazed and watched Ruby Gloom with the kids. Ate Lunch, kids napped. Did one quick round of Tokyo Jungle and then showered. Spent a longgg time playing with makeup while listening to Dave Grohl’s…

Every year on my birthday I mentally make goals I want to keep or things I want to accomplish that year. I know most people use New Year’s, but what better time than the day you began to exist! <3 Tomorrow is my birthday so I have been thinking about my list. I usually just mentally make a list and promptly forget it or roll the whole thing over to the next year. But this year I am making it more realistic and publicly declaring it. My Birthday Year Goals: 1. Learn how to bake properly. 2. Learn to do…

It’s St. Patrick’s Day and I have had quite the day. The husband sneaked out of bed first and went downstairs to make breakfast. I got up and got the kids out of their rooms. Husband made eggs, sausages, and hash browns, then served it with french bread and jam. He wanted a good base in his stomach before he went out St Paddy’s Day drinking with his best friend. (Now, no hard feelings there. He gets to see his friend around twice a year lately cuz they live on opposite ends of the city and are so busy with…

People that have never experienced sexual assault don’t understand how awfully common it is. If we start being careful of what kids see and educating them young we can empower young beings to defend themselves and know when to say no and report it. It happens to both girls and boys BY both men and women, but girls are more frequently targeted… I stole these statistics off of the Rape Victims Support Network and they are frightening. Sexual Assault Stats: One of every 17 Canadian women is raped at some point in her life A woman is sexually assaulted by…

Isabella’s new stage is a vampire. We checked the book Vampirina Ballerina out of the library. It was life changing for her. It is about a little girl who is a vampire but who joins an evening ballet class with mortals. The little vampire girl is shy and has to try hard not to turn in to a bat. By the end she gains her confidence and loves her class and her classmates. Now Isabella is a vampire. It’s her fave book and I just checked it out of the library for the second time. Her fave movie now is…

Since I am waiting for the paint on my nails to dry, and it is as exciting as it sounds, I thought I would ramble for a minute before I start supper. I talked to my doctor about my food intolerance issues and she basically said, “Of course. You are getting older. Your body chemistry is changing and you can’t eat what you used to. Be careful of food combinations and quantity and you can eat everything. It’s just a matter of getting older and adjusting.” And you know what? She is right. I eat less processed foods now but…

Anyone who is in a relationship or married needs to ask themselves one question. That question is not “Do I love this person?” but “Do I LIKE them?” That is the true measure of any relationship. Do you like spending time with that person? Do you have great conversations? Do you like wiling away the hours together in comfortable conversation or comfortable silence? Not do I love him. Love can be lust, anger, drama as excitement, or can fade too quickly. Many people who love each other can be completely wrong for each other. You HAVE to pair friendship with…

My daughter’s room is full of dolls and snugglyfriends. She has a wooden crib that used to be mine as a child. She is currently using it to swaddle and tuck in her sloth snugglyfriends. The rest of her floor is a pile of dolls and blankets. When I tell her to clean up that mess she is astonished and angry. Mess! That’s not a mess. It is her doll’s bed. They are big girls and can’t sleep in mommy’s bed, they must have their own. Which just happens to be her entire floor. Her room, her rules.
