• I Love My Job as a Stay At Home Mom.

I love my job as a stay-at-home mom. And yes, it is a JOB not a life choice etc. I’m not (whisper, whisper “just a stay at home mom”(whisper, whisper); but a STAY AT HOME MOM (job title shouted proudly). When I was  in Grade 11 I had to go see my guidance counselor and pick a career path so I could prepare for graduation. When I said my only dream ever was to be a stay at home mom that wrote on the side she laughed at me a little. She was very much a “strong, independent lady” that…

  • Favourite Book of All Time?

Question #2 from my friend to blog—fave book of all time and why.   This is an extremely hard question to answer. I was one of those kids who always had a book in her face. I mean, always. I would hide under the blankets and read til midnight or 2 am. I would wake up in the mornings and read while I ate breakfast. I walked to school most days and if it was nice out, out would come the book from my backpack and I’d read while I walked to school. It made the walking slower but I’d…

  • Most Influential Person?

I was asked…. “Most influential person in your world?” Tough question. For many reasons. Fictional or real person? Past or present? This is the kind of question that changes every year. Or day sometimes. I could say for past people it could be my Grandmas on both sides. My Grandma Gillespie taught me to be strong and carry myself with dignity; and in an indirect way how to defend my opinions when the other person isn’t in agreement; but in an old school, classy and respectful manner. My Grandma Salmond taught me how to be frugal not cheap and how…

  • And Still She Believed in Fairy Tales.

Once upon a time…. there was a little girl growing up in small town Saskatchewan. She grew up watching and believing in fairy tales. Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” was a favourite, as were ballets such as “The Magic Flute”. She daydreamed that someday her prince would come. She was a bit of an awkward child. Small in her preteens; with a long body, short legs and wavy hair that insisted on sticking up everywhere when not in braids. She had buck teeth before she was graced with braces around age 11 or 12, and was afflicted with glasses.  Her fashion sense…

  • Kalispell, Montana. Part 3.

Day Three, February 12, 2012. Our Final Day of the Trip! Our last day in Kalispell! We had to get going that day, so after a quick breakfast in the lobby (blueberry muffins and coffee again, with a tiny bowl of Froot Loops on the side), we got going. We talked to the desk girl a little about the sad news of Whitney Houston’s death before wishing her a good day. She was the same red-head as the day before. I was starting to feel like I knew her! We filled up our travel mugs, then went back to the…

  • Kalispell, Montana. Part 2.

Day Two, February 11, 2012 After our long baths and some quiet reading (we are both voracious readers) the first day, we slept fitfully and we were wrenched from our sleep by the alarm. We threw on some clothes and I put on a toque to hide my morning hair before heading down to see what the free breakfast offered us. Josh thought he heard “hot breakfast” when we checked in, but it turned out my hunch was right. Bagels, a couple of cereal choices, hard-boiled eggs and muffins. I was happy as long as there would be coffee and…

  • Our Trip to Kalispell, Montana. Part 1.

Day One, February 10, 2012. I am sitting here eating some of the sausage and garlic pizza leftover from our trip. It was just one of the highlights from our trip, bought at Moose’s Saloon. But more about that later. My wonderful MIL (Mother in Law) and her BFF Tracy gave us a wonderful gift. They took our kids, ages 3 and 1, on a 7 hr car trip to Salmo, BC. The kids are there for a week, so Josh and I decided to do something special. Since the kids don’t have passports, we decided to do something we…

  • Dear Sixteen Year Old Me…

I was terrible at being a 16 year old girl. I really sucked at it. I hate morose, emo, mopey kids cuz I was THAT kid…. and cuz I was determined to be that kid I missed out on so much! I just wanna shake those kids. Being a teenager isn’t easy. Bullying, hormones, school pressure, the pressure to figure out your future, insecurities…you name it. It’s a tough phase. But it can be better and I made it worse. Self sabotage came easy it seems. I didn’t like to laugh at myself…or laugh. Now I smile and laugh all…

  • New Year, New Hopes

    1. I will post at least once a week on this blog. 2. I will be more consistent in my parenting. 3. I will try to be more organized. But if things fall by the wayside cuz I was too busy playing with the kids, or doing something creative, I will not beat myself up over it. Just because a cupboard is disorganized, or a few toys didn’t get put away, does not mean I live at Grey Gardens. 4. I will inject more bright colour in to my life. 5. I will not start 10 page (or even ten…

  • Recommended Article About Bullying

Here is an article about how to deal with conflict as a female. Specifically, girl on girl bullying. It happens a lot and sometimes in ways that are subtle but just as damaging.  Bullying between girls can get nasty and cyber-bullying is a very real threat now. The article mentions bullying through Twitter and why it is way meaner to say grievances behind a person’s back rather than saying it to their face. “Because I Am A Girl Canada” posted it on Facebook and I would also like to share it, cuz it’s a pretty big deal to me. Here’s…
