Never mind New Year’s Resolutions. Spring is it. Spring is the season when we all renew our vows to ourselves that we will become fitness gurus. Just now the timeline has shortened. We realize in a panic that since our Christmas bingeing we did not keep our promise to ourselves to stick to the detox/get a personal trainer/run ten miles every day. (Unless you did, but then stop reading, this post isn’t for you). We also realize in a dread sweat that we have a much shorter timeline now to get the rock hard abs we dreamed of. We buy…

I had an excellent day yesterday. First I had to take the guilt of having free time and being able to sit and pack it away in a dark recess of my brain. I put my guilt in a timeout. Yes sirree. Frequently it had to be shushed and put back in to its corner but eventually I did it. I went to my ultrasound appointment, got a clean bill of health and came home. I checked the interwebs for news, found some good news stories and then some sad ones so I turned it off (who wants to read…

My two kids are away! They went camping with Grandma (aka my Mother in Law) and her best friend Tracy. I am sure they are having so much fun! My week alone started out with an ultrasound to check the lump in my breast. Except that in the last couple of days it disappeared. So the ultrasound was extra insurance only. The tech looked and she didn’t see anything, then brought the in-house Dr to take a look and she also found nothing! Phew. From my description they are both 95% sure I just had a fluid filled cyst that…

Remember the movie “Office Space” and they made fun of people who say, “Looks like you have a case of the Mondays”? Well, I have a case of the Mondays and it’s Wednesday. It’s one of those mixed up days you wish you could start again. Hunter was awake a bit last night. I settled him and thought he was teething. The kids were crabby this morning from lack of sleep and it was the regular gong show morning. Hunter couldn’t decide if he wanted to walk Isabella to school or not so Izzy and I started out on our…

Another day wasted. I feel well enough to not spend the day napping but not well enough to actually accomplish anything. I feel lazy. I plan to attempt yoga tonight with the hubby. Maybe it will help even if I’m not up to all of the moods. If you want to know what we do every night, it’s Jivamukti Yoga DVDs. And they are amazing. That may help get things in line so this stomach bug dies. It’s just an annoyance at this point and I am no longer contagious but it makes me want to shout, enough already!!! On…

My daughter is mad at me. She is super angry that we thought Isabella was a more suitable name than Wonder Woman. What a kid. She is always entertaining us with random comments like this one. The other day I got to go thrifting with my friend Randey. Except on our outings that could only be loved by nutballs like us, or seniors, we call each other by our senior names “Maude” (me) and “Lloyd” (Randey). We went to the cutest little place and I found a couple of finds to add to my house. I am resolved to find…

I was sad to hear about the Boston Marathon. Guns and bombs seem to be the violence of choice these days. In Canada we worry about it far less than our neighbours to the South. And across the world in many other countries it is a daily occurrence and fear. As the blogger from “Apartment 34” says, “The tragedy in Boston is so heartbreaking. Seeing video footage of the bombing actually happen makes me think of all the people around the world who live in fear of such violent acts on a daily basis.” And I have to agree and…

Easter is just a chocolate fest in our house. Isabella goes to a Christian preschool only because I want her to know the Bible stories from a devout Christian perspective. It’s not what I believe but it is a HUGE part of our culture and affects world-wide events. So it’s important she have a strong basis in religion and make up her own mind. It’s good to start with individual free thinking early. Everything she learns in school she tells me. I don’t even say “That is what those people believe” or “That’s a story some people think is true”.…

Poetry is hard. I am no longer the arrogant, emotional 13-year-old I used to be that thought everything she wrote was gold. Poetry is difficult and I am not a free-flowing river of tears and joy any more. I am usually too drained at the end of the day to face my emotions head on and write poetry. And something else I discovered? There is no poetry without a pen and paper. I cannot write it on my laptop with a keyboard. It just doesn’t work right. It sounds as mechanical and stilted as it should being written on a…

Dear Ryan Gosling. take a break if you wanna. I don’t know where girls got this crazy, you’re-the-only-heart throb attitude. You haven’t played a romantic character since The Notebook (which I wasn’t as crazy about as Crazy Stupid Love but have been told umpteen times to re-watch cuz apparently I missed something important). You have played a psycho, an obsessive simpleton, a killer, a drunk, an emotionally shut off player, a criminal, a politician… and none of those roles (though thrilling) are particularly romantic. Even your brilliant band Dead Man’s Bones doesn’t write love songs, persay! You write about ghosts…
