• Sun & Salsa Festival 2013

So this weekend was packed but wonderful. Basically, if I am allowed to sleep in for more than an hour I am happy. On Friday night I think we just did movie night at home, enjoying “Home for The Holidays”. (Our Friday night movie theme this time is Robert Downey Jr’s movies. Before that was all of the Bond films, and before that was all of Martin Scorsese films. We like themes.) Saturday morning I got to wake up at 930 am. We decided to go to a wading pool. We chose Riley Park because there are trees for…

  • The Successor. Welcoming a New Cat.

Summer is always so busy. I find it busier than the school year. Days are filled with visitors, travel, day trips and play dates. I’ve been so busy that I temporarily fell off the fitness and yoga wagon. 🙁 But I’m back on it!! I started up again and the Husband and I are even planning on doing our yoga DVD tonight. (Transformation with Jivamukti Yoga, if you’re wondering). I’ve also been doing my weights again and have been trying to eat better. For awhile the patio furniture kept calling for me to sit on it and drink beers. I’m…

  • Rest In Peace Simon Cat

We had to put Simon down. I am heartbroken and devastated. The vet agreed with my choice and we talked at length about it. He was beginning to act feral. He had even begun targeting Hunter’s things and hissing and scratching at Hunter. Some days he would hiss and scratch at us and act as if he had never seen us before in his life. The vet said if it is medical it would be something that would need intensive treatment and it would be an extensive process to find out. But she suspects I would have a lengthy vet…

  • My Cat Has Behavioural Problems

I have a cat because dogs take a lot of attention and care. You need to pet them and walk them and kennel them when you are out so they don’t get pissed off and pee on your couch or rip up a pillow. But my cat Simon is being like that. We’ve decided we are going to take him to the vet again next week. He doesn’t seem to be in pain so we are waiting for payday, as sad as that may seem. I am guessing either he has another bout of urinary tract crystals or it’s behavioural…

  • The Trouble with Cats.

There is so much conflicting advice on the internet about what to do with a cat that seems to have a behavioural problem. And believe me, I have tried it all. Well, all feasible options. My cat Simon is peeing in inappropriate places. Wait, that makes him sound like a flasher. Haha. Let me start at the beginning. Simon started to act grumpy as soon as we had Isabella. He acted so grumpy around her we’d lock him out of her room at night, just in case. He doesn’t seem to like them touching him, doesn’t seem to trust them.…

  • ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’: Movie Review

I saw The Place Beyond the Pines awhile ago and haven’t really stopped thinking about it since.   A phenomenal movie it was less a movie than a play in 3 parts. There was a focus on each father and then the sons. There is no hero or villain here. Everyone is equally flawed and F*cked up. There are subtleties that should not go unnoticed when you see it. The mention of ice cream for instance and whether that dream is fulfilled. Also, some of the camera work. I am trying to keep these thoughts sparse because if you haven’t…

  • Simon Cat: An update on my cat’s illness

Cat Update. I’ll backtrack just in case. Simon wasn’t peeing in his litterbox. And he was peeing on the floor or in front of the front door on the mat. I thought at first Hunter was having accidents and not telling me he got pee in the carpet. Then I saw Simon and he looked uncomfortable while peeing. My sister was able to look after the kids while we took Simon to the vet. By this point he would yowl while peeing, like cat screams. He was lethargic and not himself. We took him, expecting the worst. He was diagnosed…

  • Hunter is Funny: Quotes from My Toddler

A quick quote from my toddler for you. Hunter fell asleep on the way home in the car yesterday. I undid his car seat and got him inside without waking him up. I went upstairs, laid him in bed and successfully got his hat, boots and nearly his coat off. As I took off the last arm, he woke up. As I was changing him from underwear to a pull-up for his nap he started to giggle. Giggle, “Mom. I am a baby bird and I LIVE outside.” Gigglegiggle….. Snore. It was super cute. The End

  • “Maude” and “Lloyd” go on an Adventure

My friend Randey and I go on outings. Silly things. Like the stuffed gopher museum and other things even seniors would enjoy. Nerdy outings. Visiting ghost towns or checking out diners. I have a soft spot in my heart for diners and 50’s fashion….but this time we went to a thrift shop type store. On our trips we go by our “senior” names, “Lloyd” and “Maude”. Lloyd/Randey wrote: “Owned and operated by Marilyn ‘Dice Lady’ Serson, Dicelady’s Deals is located just an hour away from Calgary. It’s an eclectic, yet charming mix of collectible/thrift store and cafe/diner all in one…
