56 Printable Financial Conversation Starters for Kids

Thank you to Zach Painter from Siege Media for this post.

Let’s face it: teaching your kids about money is not easy. Most children don’t particularly care about money or finances… until they’re much older and realize they can use money to buy things they want. This is understandable; imparting a solid financial foundation takes time. This is why it’s best to start early.

How do you do this when kids would rather be playing or outside?

One proven method is to get them talking about money without realizing it. This happens when kids watch you do everyday exchanges with money, like buying groceries or withdrawing money from an ATM. At some point, they will ask you what you’re doing, and this is when you can start using these basic money conversation starters for kids. From 5-year olds to young teens, Wikibuy has compiled 56 financial questions designed to get your kids talking about money.

If your little tikes start piping up about money, you can pull out one of these basic money questions during breakfast or dinner to help them understand how money works and why we need it.

If you have older children, then you might want to start using these budgeting and savings questions instead. That way, they can start thinking about important financial concepts- later, helping them save for college or for a down payment on a home!

You can download the full list of questions here, so take advantage of the opportunities throughout your day; get your child thinking and talking about their finances. You’ll be glad you did in years to come!
